Competing all Around Town
The USGA’s rules of golf do not define
how one person plays the game alone. Playing golf alone is about as silly as
playing poker alone. Sailors say that whenever two boats are sailing to the
same port, they are racing. I will look for opportunities to make
dime bets with you as we play. Hopefully, I will win a few of these bets and
then introduce you to how a two down press is played in golf. The pressure of a
press is likely to upset your game plan and to then dramatically upset your
swing kinetics. This situation will give you an
opportunity to regain control of your play. You will best regain control of
your play by putting aside your swing tip based game. You will need to play at
a higher level by using the mental pictures and feelings you
personally developed about your shots and your swing kinetics during your
practice sessions. If you need to hit a fade to win the match, you just need to
form a mental picture of a fade and call up the proper feelings
that will allow you to use the clubface to put the proper english on the
ball.
I believe that being able to form pictures and trust them and your feelings are the key to being a
strong competitor. However, the foundation of pictures and feelings is an understanding of the underlying
swing mechanics for the individual shots. With this thought in mind check out the video where
Brandel Chambee, PGA and Bill Forrest will teach you to hit a knockdown shot.
Allow time for the video to download and after watching the video use your browser's back button to return to here.
Once you are hooked on competing, your attitude
will change and your game will improve. As you start to make the transition to
Player, you will join your state’s golf association, get an index and start collecting your stats. We will track your index
and your stats and soon you will see you are ready to Start Competing All
Around Town. Then, take the plunge and go with your friends to your first local tournament
and join them as a fellow competitor. Don’t worry about how well you will
play; you are well able to play. Ha!Ha! what if you have a bad day. Certainly it has to be your
fault since you are the one hitting the ball which is something that you have done well on many occassions
since hiring me as your Swing Coach. Let me put on my Ph.D. hat and suggest that your problem is between
your ears; it's not a swing problem; Gosh forbid, I'm your Swing Coach. It's a mental problem, yours.
Amazon a copy of Be the Ball by Charlie Jones and Kim Doran
and read it 1X, 2X, 3X and put it under your pillow with your putter
and your lob wedge and whatever clubs you are having trouble with. Then we will get to work to have you not just
Competing All Around Town but Winning All Around Town.
We will have to work very hard on your mental game since your spouse won't tolerate a bag of
golf clubs under your pillow indefinitely.
